When Should You Consider An Implant When Having A Breast Lift

A breast lift, also known as a breast mastopexy with implants and augmentation is performed with the aim of enlarging the size and giving a more preferable shape and placement of the breast. This procedure addresses issues such as droopy breasts, breast asymmetry, and tuberous breasts while helping to improve self-confidence.

As women age or go through pregnancy, the skin and ligaments of the breasts can be negatively affected; however, this procedure, performed by Dr. Yunaev at the Breast and Body Clinic, works to provide an appealing aesthetic result.

What can breast lift surgery with implants do for me?

Breast lift surgery with implants aims to reshape the breast creating a firm appearance with an enlargement by combining the procedure with a breast augmentation surgery in Sydney. This procedure is suitable for anyone with a desire to improve the size, shape, and position for the breasts.

A breast mastopexy with implants and augmentation will:

  • Create a more desirable size and position of the breast
  • Improve firmness
  • Elevate the position of the nipple
  • Create a more preferable symmetry between the breasts
  • Create upper breast fullness, impossible to create without implants

During your consultation, it will be determined which version of the augmentation procedure will be suitable based on your goals. The operation can be performed in several different ways including an implant positioned:

  1. Under the breast gland, above the pectoralis muscle
  2. Under the pectoralis muscle
  3. Partially under the pectoralis muscle and breast gland

The substance of the implants nowadays is made of either cohesive silicone gel or saline. In Australia, silicone gel implants are most common with either a textured or smooth surface. The implant shape can be anatomic or round depending on the desired aesthetic of the breast.

During your consultation, it will be determined which version of the augmentation procedure will be suitable based on your goals.

Are you a suitable candidate for a breast lift and augmentation with implants?

If you are considering a breast lift and augmentation with implants there are some points you should first consider:

  • Breast implants may affect your ability to breastfeed; it is recommended that this procedure take place when there is no more desire to have children
  • Breast implants are not guaranteed to last a lifetime and depending on the weight of your breasts neither are the effects of a breast lift, further surgery may be required to maintain the initial effects
  • Smokers are at increased risk of complications from any surgery. If you are serious about undergoing cosmetic surgery, you should try to quit smoking

This procedure may be right for you if:

  • You are in good physical shape
  • You have set realistic expectations
  • Your breasts are fully developed
  • Your breasts have lost their firmness or shape
  • Your breasts have an elongated shape or are pendulous
  • Your nipples fall below the breast crease
  • Your nipples and areolas point downward
  • You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas
  • One breast is lower than the other

It is important to keep in mind that your breast shape prior to surgery will influence the outcome of the procedure.

Frequently asked questions

Does a breast augmentation increase the risk of breast cancer?

No, it will not. Studies have shown no link in an increased risk of breast cancer with breast implants. The National Cancer Institute states that having implants has no adverse effect in the finding of breast tumors.

How old is too old for breast lift and augmentation?

Whatever your age, we encourage a consultation to assess your situation and find the best option for your desired outcomes however it is recommended that women wait until after pregnancy, with no further desire for more children, before having this procedure.

How do I choose a breast size?

This is a significant element of your consultation; we work with you to identify what size of breast you should choose as every patient’s body is different; our goal is to achieve healthy expectations.

How long must I wait until I can exercise?

Intense physical exercise is not recommended for six weeks following the procedure; however, light activity like walking is allowed.

When can I return to work?

This is dependent on the physical demands of your job. The procedure will mean that upper arm movements should be avoided for the first two weeks and lifting heavy objects should be avoided for six weeks after the operation.

What can I expect during recovery?

It is likely that you will be able to leave the hospital the same day as your surgery. There may be discomfort and pain after surgery which can be mitigated with postoperative prophylactic antibiotics. You may experience some swelling and bruising that decrease after a couple of weeks. It is recommended that you rest on your back or side, and drink plenty of water.

When can I expect to see the results?

As the swelling settles over six weeks you will begin to see results; however, a timeframe of between 3-6 months is expected for the final results to be apparent.

Are there any risks involved in this particular procedure?

All surgical procedures involve a level of risk with complications including infection, bleeding, bruising and swelling. The breast lift without implants procedure is relatively safe; however, a chance of scarring, size, and change in nipple-areolar sensation, or asymmetry of breast shape is possible.
