Brachioplasty in Sydney takes 2 to 3 hours to complete, but may vary depending on its complexity. You will be administered either local or general anaesthesia, and in some cases, IV sedation, based on your health needs. The arm lift technique used during surgery will vary for each patient, as it is customised to your specific concerns and the extent of excess skin and fat.

Average Recovery Times

To assist in your recovery and ensure the best possible results, you will be given aftercare instructions that may include:

• Take two to three weeks off from work to allow for your recovery.
• Avoid driving and lifting heavy objects for two to four weeks.
• Wear your compression garment for six weeks to help lessen bruising and swelling.
• Take all prescribed medications.
• Keep your arms elevated, and avoid using your arms to lift yourself. You may need to sleep in a reclining position or use pillows to keep them raised.
• Light activities such as walking are encouraged to prevent blood clotting.
• Do not drive until you are no longer taking pain medication.
• Use ice to reduce the swelling, but avoid using gel packs as you do not want to overdo the ice.

Although severe risks following surgery are rare, problems can happen. The following is a list of potential side effects of arm lift surgery:

• Infection
• Poor scarring
• Anaesthesia complications
• Seromas
• Significant bleeding
• Haematoma
• Loss of sensation
• Lymphoedema
