Gynaecomastia Surgery Sydney
Male Breast Reduction (Gynaecomastia Surgery)
Gynaecomastia surgery, also called male breast reduction, is a surgery performed on the male chest. The procedure removes excess, unwanted glandular tissue, fat and skin that can create the appearance of female breasts.
Male gynaecomastia is an excess growth of the male breast tissue and may be present in one breast or both breasts. The condition is common at any age, but it most often begins during puberty due to changes in hormones. It may develop as a result of:
- Hormonal changes
- Weight gain
- Genetic conditions
- Diseases, such as liver disease
- Certain medications
- Use of non-prescription or recreational drugs (Cannabis)
Gynaecomastia can cause emotional discomfort and is a condition that affects up to two-thirds of the population of men. The condition can make the male chest look overly large and protuberant due to the excess growth of glandular tissue. This excess breast tissue can also cause a man’s breasts to sag and stretch the areola (the dark skin around the nipple). It can also be painful or cause discomfort, especially when exercising.
To treat these concerns, breast surgeons may perform surgery. Dr Yunaev at the Sydney Breast & Body Clinic is highly skilled in creating tailored surgical plans. He will assess your condition and goals and work with you to develop a plan for male breast reduction (gynaecomastia surgery) that suits you.
