Breast implant revision surgery is often performed when issues arise from a previous aesthetic or reconstructive breast augmentation procedure. Dr Yunaev recommends the revision procedure if you have been disappointed by surgery performed elsewhere.

The goal is a breast contour and youthful appearance that you are happy with, but as you will likely know from your first procedure, you’ll have to account for some recovery time. Read on to understand what is involved with the recovery process for the breast revision along with some reasons why you may consider it as an option.

How Long Will It Take to Recover?

If you are considering improving the results of an earlier breast augmentation with a breast revision, you’ll need to account for your recovery time as part of the process. Every patient experiences different levels of healing ability, but a rough time frame for most women returning to work after the procedure is one to two weeks.

Immediately after the procedure, there will be some initial discomfort, swelling and bruising. This will settle by itself over time, however we advise that you take it easy for a fortnight and refrain from any strenuous activities.

If you are unhappy with the results of your breast augmentation, the breast revision may be a good option.

Reasons Why Women Undergo a Breast Revision

The primary goal of implant revision is to help you feel better about a previous breast augmentation. It is very common for women to want to switch their implants for a different size, or even have them removed altogether. The procedure is also utilised for minor changes like asymmetry tweaks following the initial augmentation.

If there are signs of leakage due to an existing faulty implant, or the edges of the implant have become visible or rippled or deflated under the skin, this procedure is also a suitable repair option.

In some cases, a patient of breast augmentation experiences capsular contracture, for which a growth of hardened scar tissue is causing discomfort. The breast revision procedure can remove this scar capsule.

Fear of Textured Breast Implants

A new reason for interest in breast revision surgery is the rise in women becoming increasingly worried about textured breast implants. These implants have received a lot of media attention recently causing patients who have them to consider their removal.

Textured breast implants have come in question due to data from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which linked a breast implant-associated lymphoma with heavily textured implants. As a result, textured breast implants have been removed from markets in countries overseas, and recently from Australian market as well.

The Breast and Body Clinic ceased any use of textured breast in 2014 opting to use micro and nano-textured breast implants instead. Women with heavily textured implants may wish to have a review by Dr Yunaev, who along with being a cosmetic surgery expert, also has extensive experience in the treatment of all aspects of Breast Cancer.

The recovery time for a breast revision can be minimal, usually around one to two weeks (this varies per patient).

When it comes to breast augmentation surgery, the recovery period can vary based on the type of augmentation you have. The two primary options are viabreast implant or a fat transfer. While it is likely you will be able to leave the hospital the same day as your surgery, your individual healing abilities will alter how quickly you can get on with your daily activities.
